What is your turnaround time on mounts?
We generally keep our turnaround time between 6- 12 months. Due to seasonal demand, all completion dates are tentative. We strive to get your mount back to your quickly, however, we do not sacrifice quality.
Do you work on pets, birds or fish?
Unfortunately, we do not. We are exclusively big game animals.
Do you do European Mounts?
We do not work on Euro Mounts, however, we do work closely with those who do, and can refer you to some of the best in the business.
What is the best way to skin my animal for Lifesize?
Dorsal Cuts are ideal for Lifesize Taxidermy.
Can I ship my animal to you?
Yes, animals must be salted by a professional taxidermist, or outfitter before shipping to prevent hair slippage.
Is there a way to ship my mount home?
Yes, we will arrange shipping from reputable taxidermy haulers to your home. Shipping is an additional expense.
Do you have spare capes I can purchase for my mount?
Yes, depending on our shop stock we have spare capes that can be bought for mounts. If we do not have a cape in stock, we will do our best to locate one to the size and species you need.
How The Taxidermy Process Works
Once an animal is on the ground, properly cape the animal to the head and keep it cool and dry on the way to the taxidermist. Frozen milk jugs or frozen water bottles in a cooler work well for this.
Air temperature plays a huge role, a velvet buck in the heat of August will spoil much quicker than a buck in November.
Get the animal to us as quick as possible, or place in a freezer. Keep the animal bagged to avoid freezer burn.
Utah State Law now requires the harvest tag information / number; please bring this information with you.
Once we have the animal we will cape it off the head, turn/salt the hide, and then bring the hide to our tannery. The tannery takes between 4-6 months of our turnaround time typically.
When we receive the hide back from the tannery we will order forms. If you have not decided on the pose/form you want we will contact you. From there we will work as efficiently as we can to get to your mount in line.
Once mounted it takes typically a 2-3 weeks to dry and we complete the mount with finish work.
